Who We Are and Why We're Here

This website represents the first step in a years long dream for one advanced practice nurse in recovery. Founded in 2023, the goal of The Modest Magpie Group is to provide a safe place for healthcare providers in recovery to network with one another and share in each other's journey. The road we are on together has been traveled before and will be traveled again, we aim to provide sign posts and rest stops built from our collective experiences.
The Modest Magpie Group is self-funded and self-directed. It is not formally connected to any other entity. This independence exists to allow for a dynamic structure that can more fluidly adapt to the changing needs of the community. Do you have a suggestion? We'd love to hear it, just drop us a line! Lastly, the name. Wondering why the magpie? What does modesty have to do with anything? We're so glad you asked! Our name, "The Modest Magpie Group" comes from the fact that magpies are known totemically as spirit guides, useful for finding the most effective path. They are also symbolic of self-awareness, intelligence and creativity. We think that represents what we've set out to do pretty well! Because of their unique abilities as animals, magpies are also often misunderstood and viewed as deceitful, crafty and selfish. That reminds us of our former lives before recovery. And so, for the sake of clarity, we wish to access the more humble portion of ourselves and foster our vulnerabilty. Hence, "The Modest Magpie".
